Victory: the meaning of victory is “the overcoming of an enemy or antagonist” (Webster)
Surrender: “relinquish, yield, resign, abandon; give up completely” (Webster)
: “to agree to stop fighting, hiding, resisting, etc. because you know you will not win
or succeed.” (Britannica)
When God created Man, His plan was to have man understand the success of the combination of Victory and Surrender. This combination of opposites will never make sense to anyone who has not accepted God as their absolute superior.
In the secular world there is usually a negotiation involved in surrender. The very root of our survival instinct is to negotiate. As a result, the word “surrender” often implies the thought of negotiation. In order to release the desire to negotiate, we must first and foremost believe that the Power to which we are to surrender has, and will always have, our best in mind.
Surrender is not behaviour-driven. Rather, it happens within the spiritual component in Man. Although we can will ourselves to surrender, and perhaps this will to relent is the first step to surrender, no man can, by will alone, surrender. A spiritual awakening must happen in order to find surrender. The result of becoming aware that one has surrendered is the Victory.
We are no longer ours. We are His (God’s).
We can now begin a life where we look up to Him to carry our burdens and direct us in a life of Purpose. And, finally, an eternal home.
